The Journey Begins
“Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter.” — Izaak Walton
Life is dynamic, always active and ever changing. If you’ve had children and cared for them during all their trials and tribulations including health issues, then you know what I mean when I say life is dynamic.
Crossing Over
When my husband and I were in Italy a few years back, we were able to visit Florence and the Ponte Vecchio. The Ponte Vecchio, which in Italian means “Old Bridge”, was the first segmental arch bridge built in the west. It crosses over the Arno River in Florence and was, and still is, an amazing engineering achievement of Europe’s Middle Ages.
People are constantly crossing from one side to the other while stopping, observing, learning from, and shopping at the various stores along the way. This bridge struck me as the perfect symbol to describe the metaphor of life. It’s full of ups, downs, detours, and unexpected twists and turns. Life can be, and is, an amazing engineering achievement, like the Ponte Vecchio.
Life Redecorated – How to Take It All In
With time passing so quickly, we really need to stop and smell the roses every day. Getting on in years the way I am makes me realize how fleeting life really is. You get more aches and pains, more unwanted ailments, your children grow and age more quickly than you’d like, more wrinkles appear and, yes, you acquire more flab.
But all is not lost. You also gain wisdom, learn to appreciate the little things in life, enjoy nature, and even learn to accept others with whom you once thought you would never get along.
I take pleasure in watching birds interact for food at my birdfeeder along with the squirrels vying for their share. Listening to the wind rustling through the pine trees makes me enjoy the pleasure of a forest. Seeing the sun gradually shift in the sky with every sunset and sunrise makes me appreciate the blinds in my southern facing bedroom!
Life is good and we (I) need to be grateful for all life has bestowed upon us. Every morning I plan to count my blessings and every evening in my mind I will compile my gratitude list of the day.
From Motherhood to Empty Nesting
I hope you will appreciate and connect with some of the posts I create on this site. Our lives keep marching forward, in fact, every night when I rest my head on my pillow I think to myself, here again?? Let’s take some inspiration from not only Mother Earth but each other as we journey through the “afternoon of our lives” together. And remember, most happy hours are in the afternoon!
Happy Gardening,
Nina
