It emits ultrasonic sounds when its motion sensor is triggered. The sound is inaudible to most humans except some small children and teenagers. Me, being a worry wort, would be a bit concerned about the frequency range of this device. Even though I’ve researched and learned it is not harmful, I am always leery about things I cannot see. However, the science confirms that it is not a cause for hearing loss or other physical damage IF you do not stay near it for a prolonged period. Some precautions would be advisable.
One review I did read, though, said their dog and two cats lost their hearing from this repeller. However, in the manufacturer’s defense, the instructions state to mount and face it away from an area where your pets will be. This is due to the irritating effect the sound has on the animals and the possibility of harming the animal if it’s in close proximity to the device. So perhaps the consumer did not follow the instructions correctly or there were extenuating circumstances that caused the hearing loss to the animals. I felt I should mention this to be on the safe side.
Also, young children and teenagers may be able to hear the high frequency sounds and become very irritated. They say it sounds like nails on a chalkboard.
I also read some reviews saying it did not work at all. However, the manufacturer stated that it takes time (from one to three weeks) for the animal to respond to the noise. Once heard it will eventually move to a different location. The more time that passes, apparently the better the effect. Perhaps the consumer did not give the device time to work.

After reading many reviews, I feel this device would be useful if your garden is in an area away from your pet or where your child plays. It is important to read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. To be on the safe side, you could always disconnect the repeller if you were to go and harvest some flowers or herbs. It seems to be economical given the turn on and off feature and is easier to install than a large five foot fence.
I would give it a try if it were my yard but I would follow a few precautions. I rate it a 3.5 given the risks involved. It depends on individual circumstances as to whether or not this particular product is good for the consumer.
